Where to Stay in Vancouver – the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection

Check-In

I received an email from the Concierge team the day I made my reservation (rather last-minute so it was only a few days before my stay) welcoming me to the DOUGLAS as it was my first visit. I had previously stayed at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver (full review here) but even though the two hotels are connected by a bridge, it is operated separately.

the DOUGLAS hotel

This trip technically would be considered a staycation, but the main purpose of my stay was to be close to the Vancouver Convention Centre where I would be writing my exam the next day. The Concierge team at the DOUGLAS arranged for their driver to bring me there the morning of so that was a really nice perk for staying close.

Room – Junior Suite 1 King, Park View

Windows, windows and windows. If there is one feature that I cannot resist when it comes to a hotel room, it will be large windows.

The Junior Suite does not have an actual separate bedroom but the wraparound windows make up for the fact that it is a modest 445 sq. ft. Eric did not come with me on this trip and I would say there would have been plenty of space in the room even if he did.

I love the look of the rain shower head, but it was not the most practical. However, I love the way they incorporated their dark wood theme with the elegant marble shower and glass door. Just like at JW Marriott Parq, full-sized bathroom products were provided.

Location

The DOUGLAS hotel’s location is just as convenient as JW Marriott Parq as the two are essentially the same building separated by the convention space.

With its Yaletown location and complimentary shuttle service to 2 SkyTrain stations, you will not need a car to explore what Vancouver has to offer.

Dining Options

In addition to the dining options at JW Marriott Parq, the DOUGLAS also has a rooftop lounge on the 6th floor called D/6 Lounge and a steak and seafood restaurant called The Victor.

24-hour room service is also available for ordering.

Conclusion

Just like the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, the DOUGLAS offered top-notch location, service and amenities.

Between the two, the DOUGLAS is the much more intimate hotel as it only got 178 rooms and 10 suites over 9 floors. I personally prefer the dark wood theme at the DOUGLAS over the brighter, delicate decor over at JW Marriott Parq. However, with both of them being a part of Marriott’s premium lines, I would say you can’t go wrong with either.
